    The bright side

With all of the cow/calf guys on this site talking about how they are disappointed about the removal of the restrictions to American feeder cattle, look on the bright side, at least it is only feeder cattle and not breeding cattle.

Don't understand this. We have imported breeding bulls from the USA?

But the breeding bulls and cows still have to be tested. R-Calf is currently trying to remove this restriction as well. Hopefully they will be unsucessful.

How long do you think it will take befor some wise guy who imports a shiny batch of feeder hiefers and turns a bull with them and they end up in our cow herd.

Well actually that has been happening all along? In the fall of 2002 there was a bunch of black heifers sold at Innisfail that had come in under the restricted feeder program. Got that info right from the owner. Now I don't know if they were tested in the lot before they went out with the bull, but they sure never announced it from the auction stand.
I imagine it's like most government deals. They talk a good talk but in reality they never bother policing it too good?
