Used a portion of your scour remedy. The bleach made sense to me. Mixed one tablespoon in with a shot of electrolytes. Not sure which did it but went from thinking of a loss to nursing in a matter of hours. we'll see tomorrow.

You can walk away from the EPO contract but you will be expected to pay the premium you agreed to when you signed the contract adjusted for the time value (premium minus the incremental payment).

Other questions? Will the grain company let you store on a storage ticket? What is the cost? Will the storage be for more than 90 days? If it is, you will not be covered by CGC bonding if the company goes under. The latter is critical if you signed an "A" or "B" series contract and there is a termination prior to May 1.

As a note, there is no such thing as a storage ticket (from what I know) for non board crops anymore. The grain company takes ownership of the grain/oilseed at delivery and then allow you an agreed time to establish a price. A storage ticket leaves you in ownership of the grain with a right to takeback a similar quality of the same grain at some point in the future (after you have paid an elevation and storage). You retain ownship until you have sold and been issued a cash ticket.

Have sold fall calves in presorts on a regular basis but that was always pre BSE. Last fall there was no reasoning from one week to the next in price so we kept all of them. Normally I've been happy with the results as you don't have the singles and the sale is usually over quick. Weighed off the truck,etc. Market seems a little more stable at the moment and should work out. The trouble with last fall and a presort was if you hit a bad day you can't bring them home.

A presort is only as good as who does the sorting. An example, if they put your good clean calves in with a bunch that have horns, either you are helping someone else get a better price, or they are bringing yours down.Yardage is sometimes higher too, especially if it's a satellite sale.

You really have to watch out if you have any calves that don't make it into a group. If they sell later as singles, they usually sell cheap.

I think you will find he will never look back! In this life we "elders" have to pass on the things we find that work. And the fact is there are old boys out there who know a few tricks...believe you me I've learned quite a few over the years!
The bleach recipe works, is cheap and cuts out those trips to town to the vet where the cash register never stops ringing!

kato has got it right. If you have good people doing the sorting, you'll do alright. Ask the neighbors how it's worked for them. Auctions soon get a reputation about that sort of thing. But if you have an off calf or two you're better to sell them at the regular sale...the off calves that is.

I think I will wait until the PRO's come out next week and then decide on what to do with the cwrs - happy to hear we can get out of the EPO.

Calf isn't quite 100%, about 90, but he could hardly stand when I'd treated him. I haven't treated him again and he enjoys the sun and a good drink. Looks like he'll be OK without further help.

Hi guys, got the opposite problem. Got one that won't poo,,, been treating her for navel infection with Nuflor and Rafterdex and now she won't poo. She's listless and barely sucks. temp of 39 this morning. Any suggestions for this little critter???
