Went to the cow sale at Nielson in clyde on sat 1200$ bred cows $1300 pairs they were young but still at that money how can the farmers claim poverty. What with drought still a good chance and grasshopers a real problem I realy dont see the optomisim . They had a charolis Bull sale to and the 2yr olds were in the 3500 range kind of I didnt stay for all the bulls but it sure looked to me that it is business as usual. So no problems.

I wouldn't be surprised if alot of those cattle are going to American buyers who are holding them in custom lots up here. A couple of American buyers were buying calves in Grunthal early last week like there was no tommorrow. Averages were a lot higher then anywhere else in Manitoba. Calves up to 700 pounds were fetching anywhere between $.95 to $1.10.

It sure seems like there are a lot of deep pockets out there. I wonder if this is some of the deferred drought tax money coming back into the market? And yet people are saying how dry it is! It seems like whatever snow melt there is, is going straight into the ground?
I know of one old boy out in the desert who has waded back in and bought forty bred heifers! He seems to think things are going to turn around in a big way, both weatherwise and marketwise! I sure hope he's right!

Talked to what I would call a reliable source and he says they had to put the market up because the farmers were whining to much and to not buy cattle for a few weeks because it is going to go down again. Do you think the operators realy do have the power?
