CWB Ad in March Alberta Beef Magazine

For those of you that think the grain industry doesn't know anything about cattle, check out page 29 of the March addition of the Alberta Beef Magazine (CWB Ad). I am just curious what a cattleman's interpretation of this ad is and what it accomplishes.

Thanks for pointing me to the thread. I had missed it.

Seemed like a strange ad to me - particularly in a beef focused magazine.

My conspiracy theory question is"How much has the western Canadian cattle industry been overbuilt buy the CWB carryout of feedgrains?"Seems no one wants to `go there`.Even talked to Anne Dunford about it.Answer....`Never thought about it.`End of conversation.I was so shocked I just left it alone.Top analyst????

Chris Mills had always said that the CWB was the cattlefeeders best friend other than the years where they have a deficite in the barley pool accounts. So once in the last twenty years Feeders have been forced to pay more than what the barley was worth. Not a very effective arbitrage system.

I suspect in the next few years all grain farmers are going to find out if the CWB was an albatross or a blessing? Shirley is talking pretty tough about scrapping it?
I suspect at the end of the day the feed barley will still be going to feedlot alley and the hog barns? The fact is the Americans won't allow big numbers of feed barley to enter their country and where else can it go? Freight will eat up any "world price" premium. Barley is just not all that valuable that it can pay the freight.
I wonder also what will happen if producers do scrap the CWB? Will the Canadian government still feel compelled to put up the credit for foreign buyers? Seems to me the Canadian taxpayer shouldn't be on the hook because Cargill or ADM want to sell wheat to Russia or Poland or Iraq at firesale prices with no hope of ever getting paid?
Grainfarmers seem to be calling for true free enterprize. Maybe the government will really give it to them? Including getting out of the crop insurance business and turning it over to Mutual of Omaha types? I think we can all agree the Canadian taxpayer shouldn't be subsidizing the multi-national insurance companies?
