    frostbite in bulls

I'm interested in anyone's opinion or experience(s) with repeat breeding in their cows. Specifically frosbite damage in bulls. How did you make the diagnosis? How much damage? How long to recovery? Is there chance for recovery? Anything that can be done? Any information, experience, stories, I would love the opinions of anyone interested. thanks in advance and Happy Easter.

Our Vet writes......"Infertility may result from the chilling effect on the testicles and also from the abnormal heat production that follows as a result of inflammation. In severe situations, the supercooling of the testicles may result in testicular degeneration with more prolonged or permanent infertility. If frostbite is not severe bulls will generally recover in 4 - 8 weeks although the scab may persist for months."

Personally I think the 50 or 60 dollar vet exam is well worth any suspicious case.

Last year our bull produced 14 for 14, but with a 1-2 month delay. I had skimped on straw the previous winter and have wondered since if frostbite had been the cause of the delay. More straw this winter, so wonder when calving will commence!
