    Nice weather

Well the weather has sure been nice the last few days. Kind of nice not having to wear a snowsuit and boots in April for a change?
Dragged the cultivator out and worked up the garden yesterday...seems to still be pretty wet. The gophers seem to be still shoveling out fairly moist dirt. My son is on a poisoning rampage...figures he's going to exterminate every gopher on the place! I told him why get in a flap over it...the neighbors aren't doing anything and thats where they all come from anyway?
It is sort of disturbing how the darn sky clouds up and then it doesn't rain. Almost feels like the last two years...it's almost like it can't rain! I don't know whats happened to this darned weather but I wish it would smarten up!

What a treat for us April calving guys though. Not even a hint of a sick calf so far. This largest calf crop ever, that we keep hearing about will ene get bigger if we have no storms like last year. Typical farmer here, yeah rain would be nice, but dry warm calves are healthy calves.

Hey cowman. We've cultivated about 100 acres so far, the usual wet spots don't exist. Got about 600 of corn and soybeans to go in eventually but hopefully we'll get some moisture first.

        Hi Dalek!
Where are you growing corn and soybeans, there's not that kind of variety around here and I'm just wondering is this a new venture based on the price of vegetable protein going up or have you been doing this awhile? I regularly feed corn and soybean meal ( along with barley ) esp. to cattle that we fatten and process for ourselves and local customers. I find that I don't "know for sure" where it comes from. With the whole BSE thing and selling more meat locally, I need to be able to assure my customers ( and my family ) that I know for sure where the animal came from and what went into it. Next thing will be finding a packer that I trust just a little more than any of the ones around here now. Do you sell farmer to farmer at all and what if any ability to grind, roll or crack the shells might you have?

2 inches of snow this morning and forcast to keep it up most of week .Might have to rethink the seeding plans if it does amount to much , had pretty well decided on crop insurance for the main course but will see

I like that idea of crop insurance being the main course! LOL!
Tonight we've got about 4 inches of fairly wet snow...its tough we have to take our moisture in a solid form, but after the last two years you'll never hear me complaining!
Hopefully we can get some water circulating now and get some more wet weather. I guess it is really ugly in eastern Alberta with a big fire out around New Brigden yesterday? Also talked to a rig engineer who said it is powder dry up around Hinton...he said the cats are plowing dust when they are making the leases. Hoping that everyone here can get some rain/snow...Lord knows we need it?

Whiteface we're in East-Central Ontario, dairy and grains, growing about 850-900 acres of corn, soybeans, soft red and soft white winter wheat, barley, and alfalfa. Been growing corn here for probably 40 years, we just started soybeans about 5 years ago. Wasn't much of a local market before that.

Thanks for the reply dalek. That makes sense. I have friends in or near Brantford going to really increase their soybean and corn acres this year, I guess I just assumed that you were farming on the prairies - really nice to have voices, opinions and friends to share ideas with from all across the country. Good luck with those soybeans, I don't grow crop, just cattle and buy all our feed. I hear soybeans are up considerably.
