Looking for some advice on the Aquamat nose pumps (yellow top, brown trough). Their info says 20 cows/pump. Is that all? Also, can 1 month old calves use this system, I've heard they should be over 300lbs. What other advice can you supply??

I have a limited experience with nose pumps. We use one out of a dugout with about 20-25 pairs. To be honest, I don't think we had any calves that light so don't know it it works for them. I rather doubt it. When we put green cows onto pasture with nothing but the pump, we noticed some had a lot more trouble than others getting clued in and some were pretty thirsty for the first couple of days. We would go out a couple of times a day an pump the dish full. Once they got it, though, they were great fun to watch. I think they just loved to pump furiously and watch the water spill over the bowl.
To reduce stress during hot dry weather for those that have trouble getting started, my advice would be to start them in cooler moist weather.
