    American feeder prices?

On the Ag talk site there is a quote where one producer sold his steers for $1.09 US for 900 lbs. calves. Now if you figure that in Canadian dollars you are over $1300! Not too shabby a price?
They also are talking contracted 600 lb. steers for Oct. delivery at around $1.30 US which means about $1,038 Canadian!
Is it any wonder they aren't real keen on opening the border? What are the quotes on 600 lb. steers this Oct. in Canada...I think someone said 65 cents...or about $390!
Now with a price spread like that, is it any wonder groups like R-CALF are getting some major support?

I had a phone call yesterday from a guy I've never met or talked to in the past. He seemed to pretty close to the political (prov) and the beef industry. Cactus Feeders (and others) were buying feeders up here at a pretty hot pace until a few weeks ago. Aparently our PM made another secret trip to Texas and meet with GWBush on his ranch. The purpose was to Canada back on side with the US in the Iraq war. He didn't get anywhere. So the Americans decided that if we hadn't learned our lesson enough yet, they would continue to teach us a lesson. The prediction was made that a number of our large finishing lots are going to be bought out by the US feeders.
Another comment was that Japan is the Americans "Best Behaved 50th. State"
I can't substaniate any of these comments but is seems to fit in the mix.

I can't understand how some people think-I have an order for 1,000-500 weight calves for Nov. delivery at $1.30-if the border opens the cattle will go to Oklahoma if not they will stay up here to be fed. I realize the American guy is offering much below U.S. market but he's also alot over the Canadian one too. I'm sure I'll start getting calls on Oct. 31 asking if offer still on table lol.

A number of our big lots already are indirectly owned by Americans. Aren't they full of packer cattle?

What I can't understand is if the Americans want to punish Canada for not being in Iraq, why single us out?

What did we ever do to deserve this?

Before all this happened the beef industry was the only one left that actually functioned back and forth across the border without an endless stream of trade actions and lawsuits from down south.

I guess someone noticed that and decided that it was unacceptable.
And so we pay the price.

I think we are being punished more for Chretians asinine comments about presidant Bush more than anything. Lets face it the U.S. would be first to help if Canada were ever threatened-I think we could of got by not sending troops if the liberals could of kept there stupid comments out of it. If the big kid at school-who watches your back asks you to hold his coat while he fights you better be prepared to do it. You don't call him a moron and say your gonna smoke pot when your out of office.

I think what we hear from Chretien in the last few months of his term was a life long politician who had been holding his tongue for a long time and just didn't give a hoot any more.

Finally he could say exactly what he thought. Too bad we are the ones who got the fallout.

But then again, back to the school yard, isn't it a little petty to beat up your friends little brothers (that would be us) instead of the friend who wouldn't hold your coat (that would be our government)?

Well cswilson, I don't believe Chretien ever called him an idiot? I think it was some aid, who resigned later?
However Chretien did stand up and tell America that part of the problem with the 9-11 deal was Americas fault?...which although true, didn't go over very well in the USA? Maybe not very diplomatic?
I suspect history will teach us that Canada did the right thing by not supporting the war in Iraq? If we support the idea of a United Nations that polices the world then we can't have rogue states setting their own rules and doing whatever they want? Which defacto is what the US did?
I also suspect America has got itself into a no-win situation and has spawned a whole bunch of new fanatic enemies? Who needs this?
Everyday American boys are being killed. And for what? There were no weapons of Mass Destruction...and I would suggest Saddam was the strongman would kept the animals in line? If, and when, you see the Americans pull out with their tails between their legs, we will witness a blood bath that will make Saddam look like a saint? Don't believe all the trash you hear on Fox or CNN!

Now that they are in, they've got to stay, or it'll make Afghanistan look like a picnic.

Ohh don't get me wrong-I think the U.S.is just in a sandy version of Vietnam and I'm not even sure the U.S.necessarily wanted even combat troops but I think the Liberals could of handled the situation much better than they did.
