Anyone heard anything on hay prices? I have heard that they may be very high. Is this correct?

Well I suspect prices could be high. Depends big time on what happens with the weather and what happens with the border. I mean if people are stuck holding their cattle again the demand will certainly be there...I'm not so sure the money will be there though? If you are considering selling hay I'd look real close at the advantages of small squares(if not rained on)and really covering it well. That old pleasure horse market justs loves the small squares and money is seldom a problem. Just be sure you have the check in the bank before you load the hay!

As of May 20th, the area between Airdrie, north to Rimbey where we farm had the lowest rainfall with 80% poor to fair in the stubble moisture survey (source Alberta Agriculture). We have since had about 2.5 inches of rain which has improved our prospects considerably. However, on my walk yesterday I saw where grasshoppers are already feeding on my emerging grain. I would say that the prospect for reasonably priced hay are not that good in our area at this point.
