    Twine

Plastic baler twine has its place but I for one are getting tired of it not breaking down over the long term. We try to gather as much as we can but there is always some to be found.Has anyone found a twine that will break down say within a year or so? Are there different brands of sissal that work better

My father and I still find pieces of plastic twine in the manure piles and in the fields, and we haven't used that stuff for decades. Have been using biodegradable twine for many years now. Is pretty rotten by the time your through winter, but at least it's ok if some falls on the ground or gets eaten. If it is exposed to the elements, it will basically crumble in your hands by the time it has been around for a couple years.

Who makes it? And where do you get it?

Not sure. Will have to find some of the packing material that it comes in. On another note, this may be a some interest. Plastic and biodegradable!

Some guys used some up here a few years ago and it biodegraded a bit too fast hardly made the fall-also kind of crappy if you carry any hay over(like I ever have lol).

Yeah, the bales that are a season old fall apart a bit when you do eventually use them, especially in their second winter. Usually just the outer tough, dark inches of hay falls off. Makes for unusually happy cows as they don't have to eat the junk on the outside.

We always line up the hay that we never used in another spot in the yard. That way we use it up before we start on the current year's crop.

plastic twine- I holds up when its laying around, but I've used it to repair a hole in the fence and after a few years it is all rotted away and I have to get some wire and finally fix the fence right.
