    The New Agriculture Minister

Government sources have leaked to the media that the cabinet shuffle tomorrow will see Andy Mitchell leaving his Indian Affairs and Northern Development job and becoming the new minister for Agriculture.

I think this move could bode quite well for agriculture. Andy was the Secretary of State for Rural Development and FedNor during the Chretian years and always seemed to have a bagful of cash to spend in Northern Ontario through FedNor. At least he has experience in the realm of rural life and its problems, so we don't exactly have a dumb bunny taking over.

Andy Mitchell is indeed the new Ag Minister. Stephane Dion is the new environment minister.

Don't want to upset anybody unduly but heard somewhere today that Mr. Mitchell is an old banker. Doon't think that bodes well for agriculture, sure hope I am wrong!!!!!!! Time will tell.

Yep, Andy Mitchell is a bank manager. Don't worry though. I was reading that his riding, Parry Sound-Muskoka, has a good size cattlemen's association that is planning on keeping him hopping.
