    Feedlot gone

Just this week a local feedlot, Armitage brothers, announced it was closing shop and selling out. Now this is a mid-sized lot(7000 head) but they really did a lot for my area. Bought all their cattle at the local marts as well as a lot of barley.
Many times I have seen Rex Armitage come into the local mart and start buying and the price went up right away. Rex and Glen Armitage were good people and good old time cattlemen who are well respected in the Red Deer area.
In the local paper they had an interview with Rex Armitage about why they were quitting. He did a very nice job of blasting the Klein government and the American packers!
They aren't leaving broke. Apparently they have sold their land and buildings and the new owner(purebred) intends to dismantle the feedlot.
How many more are going to go?

Bellich brothers ceased the feedlot operation close to 20 years ago,at least, when they started up Burnt Lake Auction Mart with Keith and Ron Sims. Their land is now an industrial park! Percy still owns quite a bit of high priced land around the edge of the city under the Century Livestock name.
