PFRA for last year came to $106.00 per cow calf pair in the breeding pasture.

Plus the cost of getting them there and home again, which came to another $20.00 or so.

Actually mgh that is the going price here according to my neighbor! And he should know as he is quite involved in the fencing business.
I suspect it could have been even higher if the PMU business hadn't crashed? I know in 2002(drought year) they were paying up to $50/mare/colt.
This year, it seems, there are quite a few pastures that are sitting empty! I guess no one wants to throw good money after bad around here?
I have another neighbor who sends some cows up to a community pasture every year. It is sort of an old boys club deal where you have to know somebody to get in! Anyway every year he gets 25 cows in. Last year his grazing fees and trucking added up to $22/AU/month, so fairly comparable with katos figures?
The problem was he only got 22 calves back...two completely disappeared and one turned up at a sale two weeks later one hundred miles south! So if those calves were worth $600/each I guess you have to add $1200 to the bill? That comes to about $9.60/month/cow? So $31.60/mo/cow? Still a good deal I guess?
