Randy: Sorry to be such a "duh", but, is this meeting for gov and industry reps, etc., only, or can us dumb farmers join in too? Also, am wondering who will be attending from Big C?

Yes this is a public meeting. Minister of Agriculture for Manitoba will be there as well as Industry reps. Some group of Feedlot operators from Quebec are touring Manitoba, and the organizer is somehow involved. These folks have got the ear of the Bloc Quebec wa, (don't know how to spell that one), so as I said to Cam,"We may just have to sit back and watch things happen now".
Hope you guys know where Narrows MB is.

As far as I know Cam Ostercamp and Doug Fraser will be attending from BIG C.

      Have a nice day.

The Narrows is east of Ste. Rose and west of Ashern at the narrow place between the lower and upper parts of Lake Manitoba.

There are a lot of cattle in this area, on both sides of the lake. We live about 50 miles away, so it works for us.

I talked with Rene Catellier today on the phone.

Here's the scoop. He has arranged a tour of Quebec cattle producers so they can develop contacts in Manitoba. They are primarily feedlot operators, I think.

The Narrows Lodge is one of their overnight stays. The meeting is in the evening, at the Lodge. He has booked about 100 rooms, and there still may be a few left.

He told me that he was very impressed with Cam's essay, and decided that he would be a great person to have come and talk to the group.

There will be media, government, and people from all sectors of the cattle business there.

What he told me is that anyone who wants to come is more than welcome, and that the more people that are there, the more ideas are possible.

He's going to fax me an itinerary of the tour and more information, but I have to pick it up at the fax machine at work in the morning. I'll report here if there is more we need to know.

This sounds like a great opportunity to have a real dialogue with a very good cross section of cattle people.

Looking forward to it very much.

                  Joe - Maybe it'll rain.

That's what my husband is hoping..... sort of. We have so much haying to do, but then again, this is important too. When it all comes down to it though, we won't need to hay if the cows are all gone, will we?

We'll be the only ones there who don't have Angus cattle. LOL
