Heck if thats all they made, just remember that ALL of their expenses have been PAID!
Can't say the same about the lambs and beef most cattle producers have raised and sold. The big push is now for the packers to repay their profits to the producer of record. Guess what? Thats not the cow calf producer that took a hit when they sold their calves, but to the feedlot owners. How many of these calves were infact owned by the packers?
Sorry for the rant......... just HAD to get that off my chest.
You raise an excellent point. According to the Boxed Beef Report the Canadian packer net profits are $340 per head. A 740% increase in profits when compared to pre BSE levels, significantly more than the 281% increase in profits outlined in the Auditor Generals Report.
