Next 29 November, the Federation of the producers of bovines of Quebec (FPBQ) will apply a bottom price for the good cull cows of the province.
The Committee of setting in market bovines of reform and calves dairy has just fixed this bottom price at 0,42 $/delivers sharp. Currently, the price of the good cows turns around 0,17 $/delivers. Before the crisis of the insane cow, it was located rather at the neighborhoods of 0,56-0,57 $/delivers. In its calculation, the Committee marketed took into account several elements, of which transport charges and additional costs generated by the withdrawal of the material at the specified risk (MRS).
In Quebec, the principal purchaser of cull cows is the slaughter-house Colbex, property of Products the ltée Levinoff meat. On their side, the small slaughter-houses get approximately 20% of the volume of cows.
The producers also decided to go from before with their project of slaughter-house of bovines of reform. They will invest in a new establishment. After having analyzed the projects of 10 municipalities, they finally retained three candidatures: Three-rivers, Holy-Perpetuates and Saint-Tite.
To make their choice, the members of the Committee based themselves on several criteria, of which the road access, the ground, the labor, dynamism of the medium and aqueduct and sewerage systems. The final decision should be known in 15 days.
