    B S E testing

I just found out how the province met thier testing requirements. One fellow I know has tested app 200 some were bought in B C some in Sask for 2/3 cents per #and hsd them tested with govt paid vets and then had them buried cost him app 1000$ for burial but a return of app 25000$. Along with the fact that there is probably no safe way to bury that many cows in one place does this do any thing for the industry or is it even legal . Is there no guide lines or can anyone do the same thing . One guy says there looks to be some pretty good stuf in there and he was told just leave them in a pen without feed and water for a few days and they will look bad enough.
Thats enough to make a fellow sick ,when someone says dam farmers and thier handouts I think I will have to hang my head and agree with them.
Does the people writing the cheques for this program not wonder how one individual could own that many culls?

I am assuming that the $25,000 was a typo and that you meant $2,500?

Sounds to me like someone figured out a way to "farm" the system. I guess it sure solves the problem of not getting enough old cows to test though? I mean we met the quota right?
The government needed a solution and some enterprizing person stepped in and gave them one.

Sounds like a bunch of coffee-row BS to me and I would be very hesitant in repeating anything that I "heard from a guy".

$75 per sample doesn't leave much for buying the cows, disposal and paying the trucking from out of province. Cows are still selling for .15-.20 so I doubt any one is selling healthy cows for 2/3 of a cent.

1544 THAT WAS NOT A TYPO.
Bruce I understand its $225 per cow tested and I have seen cows sell for 3 cents and they are not healthy I was quoted 8 cents for old cows that may have a calf left in them I ALSO KNOW THE OPERATOR THAT DUG THE PIT TO BURY THESE COWS WITH A LOT OF THESE COWS WEIGHING IN AT UNDER 1000# and a bit of trucking there is a pretty good profit margin.

I bet they keep your money Joe!
I mean think about it? They like to screw you...and you send them more money so they can further screw you?
Still let us know how it goes? It should be very interesting!

Actually, if things progress as they have to date - I like the idea. In the end we are getting stronger. Let us know what happens.

I delivered a processed Hereford cow to the local girls hockey team today. An open 4 year old open cow. The local abbotoir ground her into burger for free. The girls are on their way to a tournament in Europe. They sold the burger - all of it out of the auto shop - in less than 15 minutes!

My daughter said it was like watching coyotes fight.

I should have donated about 5 more and stood around to watch.

              Regards

              Bez

don't get mad but I think in the long run we [north of 49] will be better of if the border stays closed to live beef.

Heck no Freesaw - I will not get mad. We have learned a tough lesson - never depend on trade partners.

it's killing us now, but those who can make it will be better off. Lots of new kill plants - 5-8 man operations opening up in my area. More jobs - more money. I sold a few animals to city folks at a profit. They'll be back for more and I'll be glad to supply 'em. Paid my power bill off for a change.

In that case, although burying those cows would be a bit of a nightmare to handle, it sounds like Christmas won't be too bad for that producer.

I guess when Alberta is paying 225 and the rest of the country is getting 75 it won't take people long to figure it out.
