Please read the 2nd item in the questions and answer section of the set aside document on ropin the web ,it clearly states "only if live animals actually cross the border before the January 15th deadline will applications received before the deadline but after the boarder opening be denied" No live cattle will cross the border before March 7th. With the AMI legal action and Rcalf likely to try, March 7th is a long way away. Applications that are enroute or being processed will be paid with almost complete certainty.

We received our set-aside cheque (Manitoba) on Dec. 29. Of course the U.S. announcement came that day as well. We were concerned that the cheque might not be honored, or we would have to pay it back, so made some enquiries. The official word we were given was that any applications received before or post-marked Dec. 29 would be accepted but that was the deadline.

The Sask. gov bet the border would open and they won. They are only paying out the federal portion first $120, then were paying 2,$40 dollar installments at the end of March and October. I haven't heard of anyone getting their money yet, have you?

we're in the sask program and we get audited this week. the auditor has to be able to read 10% of the tags and record the numbers for comparing to what we sent in and has to count cows. i hope he brings a snowmobile. our cattle are in three batches spread out 8 miles and we have about a foot and a half of snow on the level.

Where does your auditor come from? I phoned the brand inspector and he didn't know about the audits. We are just getting our cows in a little closer since this snow as well. Are you in the south of the province? And are you getting your check before the auditor counts?

the auditor phoned from melville; i assume he's a prov. employee. we're near ft. qu'appelle. we won't see the cheque until he's done his audit. with a foot and a half of snow now it will be a treat to count animals. even the calves are still swath grazing although i think we'll probably be putting out some feed for them for the rest of this month. we put out some good bales for them two days ago but about half of them want the feed under the snow. have seen some debate about letting cows lick snow and we made sure the calves had access to water this fall but as soon as the snow came they quit coming the quarter mile back to the water. when they come into the pen they have a good drink but don't want to make the trip back for it.
