    Cattle Prices

Has anyone been following the auction market results this week ? It will be interesting to see if and when the prices on cows starts to inch up.

Saw a sound bite on the Calgary news tonight with Will Irvine saying that producers appeared to be holding back and somewhat cautious as there weren't many cattle brought in for the sale today and not many buyers there. Sorry, no prices given.

Looking at Balog's site, all feeders are just about at the same price they were pre-BSE. Not much change in cow prices. Holstein steers have really jumped in price! They are almost back to where they were pre-BSE! And to think I could have picked up some 17 cent 8 weight holstein steers at Winnipeg back in October.

      Tsk,Tsk...foolish me :P

The sense I get from talking to people who are out and about in the livestock industry is that prices should start to increase significantly about a month prior to March 7th. It will be interesting to watch what unfolds.

Will Irvine says buyers and sellers are being caustious? Well it's early January and the weather is sort of ugly...do you think that might have something to do with the low numbers?
I suspect both buyers and sellers will be slow to accept that the market might be getting back to normal? I still say R-CALF hasn't come out swinging yet?
Obviously Tyson is doing his part to get the border open by shutting down the four US plants?
