    Enough to gag a horse

It's enough to gag a horse to listen to these guys on the U.S. panel that are coming up to check out our industry. These guys are coming up here because they have concerns about OUR feeding practices? I heard one of the reps this morning and he said so much stuff that was just plain wrong it made me want to turn off the radio. He thinks it raises a red flag because we've had four cases of BSE and the U.S. has had none, he thinks ranchers feeding practices in Canada are poor, our ruminant ban is not enforced and we're not testing enough cattle. I don't know how reps from the U.S. can say these things without their tongues falling off. If anything the standards down there are lower than ours, their mills have been shown to not enforce many if any regulations and there's a strong probability that they've covered up their cases of BSE (that's why they haven't found any?)Presumably the guys on the panel know all this too so I guess they're just plain deceitful.
In any event how anyone can think they don't have BSE and we're just riddled with it when the border was open for many, many cows for many, many years is beyond me. It surpasses all understanding.
I'm in favor of the border opening because I think it will help our prices and help many of my neighbours who are struggling right now. At least short term. But it sure is hard to swallow some of the absolute nonsense coming out of the Americans. And then they have to rub our noses in it by sending a panel to check out OUR industry? Geez.

Bring 'em on!!!! We have nothing to hide and even if they "find something" which I'm sure they will, they'll set themselves up with their own exports and they know it ( or at least the smarter ones will ... or should ... ).
Every country on the planet knows how many cattle have gone back and forth and that we plan to do everything to get out of this mess...we have nothing left to lose at this point. Let them come, let's just see what they find! We're all on to their scams by now anyway! Bring it on!
    Speaking of gagging horses...
I'm jealous Randy that you would make that much effort for your wife's return. Where the heck was I when you were single???!!!!
    Have a good day all!

yes it is crazy what they say. They have no idea how much smaller our herd size in when they criticize how little we test!!
Yes, with all the feed and animal trade prior to the border closure, it is a joke they have no BSE.
Our priority right now should be to go and Audit them!!

Has anyone wondered if the reason they are up here, is because they may have already been told that the feed that was fed was from the US?

You could be right. It would be sweet justice if the feed did come from the US.

What worries me is that they might use it as an excuse to test everything and set us up for another fall, are we ready to follow another train of "proven science" that they tell us is the "new" way to go!

Pretty hard to argue with you kpb that the open border would help aliviate some of, all of, our short term financial concerns.

Also glad to see you are stirred up about the American spin on things lately.

Darcy Davis (ABP Chair) said on the radio today that the governer of Colorado spoke out in favor of an open border when he was down there this week.
Talked of the packer problems again I guess.

Every American fighting to get this thing opens knows the benefits of taking our live cattle and adding value to them through processing. Hope that Canadians are listening as well.

Bring on the inspectors is right Whiteface, we have less to hide than the Americans. Amazing how we keep importing from the USA, but are too gutless to demand inspection by our industry groups.

Think the government or ABP would fund a trip for some BIG -C reps to walk through some of those downer cow plants in Texas where no BSE testing is allowed?

Do you think that ABP is funding the trip for the Americans ?

No I do not emerald, but BIG C doesn't have the money, and ABP has shown nothing but trust in USDA, so I guess nothing like a trip to their plants will happen, will it?

Let 'em come. Let 'em look. They may find answers they don't want to hear anyway. In the long run it really doesn't matter what they say.

I have been giving this some thought over the past few days and have come to the conclusion that the border will open.

Even if some of his politics are scary, I don't ever remember GW ever not doing something he said he was going to do. Can anyone else here remember GW changing his mind on anything? I sure can't.

He did some serious wheeling and dealing with our PM, and got some pretty good concessions out of him. Between pressure from industry down there, and a public promise to us, I think he's going to go through with it.

Whatever the Congress and Senate vote for, it still needs presidential approval to pass. This is a president at the very beginning of a four year term, and we all know how that makes a politician mindful of pressure from ordinary citizens don't we? He will let the protectionists make all the noise they like to make themselves feel better, but that doesn't mean he's going to listen to them.

My opinion. I might be wrong, but then again maybe I'm not.

                          Are you sure about that?

I know they quit looking for weapons of mass destruction. They finally realized there weren't any. (but we won't hear much about that)
