    ABP has spoken !

According to Ralph Klein "Industry told us we're on the right track. Together we're building slaughter capacity, searching out new markets and continuing our financial support to keep industry competitive,"

I assume the "Industry" spokesman was ABP - pleased to see they think we are building slaughter capacity "together".
Or does that mean the ABP, Alberta Government and the US packers are building it together - but I thought the Alberta Government couldn't get involved in building slaughter plants? I'm confused.

I'd like to know just what exactly Ralph and his ABP cronies have done to increase packing capacity in this province. Mark my words, the you-know-what is going to hit the fan this fall when the calves come home from pasture and the market is the pits. Can any of you cow-calf producers make money on $450 calves?

It seems a lot can produce them for $450 or they are supported by off farm income and it doesn't matter what price calves bring. Witness the calf sales early last fall when many, many calves were sold for these values and the producers make no complaint - then or now. No interest in speaking out or in trying to improve things for the future - we really are like lambs to the slaughter.

Yes alta cant get into the slaughter business but it can dole out grants for welfare cows to help over produce .
All this talk about the border and we cant even get together and get a level playing field here in alta, dont you all wish you could run your cows for $1.39 per mounth and get an oil cheque at the end for 10 times the rent amount. When we can get together mabey we can move ahead and not until.

Then why begrudge those that get it from the feds or any provincial graft.
