    A good day!

Today I got stuck feeding the cows and taking care of the newborns. Have three so far!
Two calves and one bouncing baby boy. The boys wife had a good stout boy at 6 AM! He weighed 8lb 6 oz. and she just laid down and had him! Not too bad for a first calver and she's just a little bit of a thing! Her people are German and farm over in Saskatchewan. Hope we get some hybrid vigor out of it!LOL
Pretty glad today...as this is the one I've been waiting for!
On a side note the two calves were from some cows my son bought abouht two weeks ago. He bought a herd of forty young red cows and we've got 15 calves so far(one set of twins) and they are real good mommas and no problems so far!

Thanks farmers son! I'm absolutely happy as a lark!
Have a couple of other grandchildren but this is the first "home born one"!
Haven't got in to see him yet but the boy says he is "solid" and has "good bone"! Big hands and big feet!
Got one cow doing the "walk" so I might have to hang around a bit before I get in to check him out!

Good stuff cowman. With the good values your family obviously follows, this young fellow could be the start of that next generation of cowmen.

Best wishes, especially for that boy, calves will keep coming year after year, but grandsons are a rare treasure.

Congratulations to you and your family, cowman. There's no other feeling in the world like the overwhelming joy of a child in the family. I'll never forget the day my boy, Ronan, was born. He's 19 months now, and the next one's due in mid-May.

Glad to hear there were no 'calving troubles', that German hybrid vigor can give quite a kick. My wife's German blood with my Scot/Irish produced a 9lb. 23-inch tank the first time around, and the ultrasound shows the next one's just as big. So much for me being a heifer bull!

Anyway, good luck with calving-the real ones-and best wishes to your family.

Congratulations GRAMPS !!! I went through the same situation six weeks ago. Our little guy weighed 8.13.5 oz, and is growing like a weed. Has RED HAIR, and a temper to match !!! Got that from me so I am told !!!

Hope baby and mom are doing fine and POPPA has come down to earth, at least, enough to help old gramps with calving !!!

Congratulations, cowman. All the more reason to keep your hand in with those cows.

Congratulations "Pop". Glad to hear that all are well and doing fine.

At that weight I hope mom can bounce back quickly.

New life, no matter what kind, is always a treasure and puts spring in the step.

A long and happy life to all.

It has been my observation (with four grand kids and two more coming in the next 30 days)that there is one thing about grandkids...they always like you!!

Yup, they like you when they are little and love you even more when they get older if you take them shopping, or give them a few bucks now and then and go easy on the advice !!!

I feel sorry for grandparents that spent winters in Ariz. and miss Christmasses and Easter with the little people. Nothing can take the place of an Easter Egg hunt, or watching those eyes light up on Christmas morning. In our family we have one set of grandparents that head south in October and back around mid-April. They miss five family birthdays, plus Xmas and Easter. They always phone bawling over the phone about how much they miss the kids etc... but their ain't enough sun in Yuma for me to miss spending those special times with my little folk !!! The little guy is just turned 4 and he thinks I am great because I have a mini donkey and of course he is really big into Shrek !!! Kids accept us, and never judge, if only everyone could be as trusting and unbiased as those little people !!!

Congrats Cowman!!! I've been on this site on and off for three or four years and notice we can all get our kicks in at each other now and then, as well sometimes our frustrations get the best of us in our dialogue.
My wife asked me this morning whats new with my friends on Agri-ville? I said Cowmans a grandpa! She replied say congradulations from us, seems I mention you all around the table more than I thought. She said we often sound like a high school reunion. I make some of you sound like were old friends from school.
Best of luck with that new baby and remember you'll be doing the baby sitting next year while the parents are out checking cows!!!!!

Good job cowman. We just found out last week we're having another one in November, that'll give us 3 under 3 years old (although I had a dream we were having twin boys, and the next morning our oldest daughter, who didn't even know we were expecting yet, said she was going to have TWO brothers to go with her sister)
