    Fair Market Beef

Time to pony up, boys. Fair Market Beef is taking R-CALF to court. They are looking for 13,000 producers with cheques of $20 each. They are filing a suit against R-CALF and its members looking for $7 Million Dollars a day in damages. They have given R-Calf an offer to publicly retract the false statements made about Canadian beef and no retraction has been forthcoming. They have hired a lawyer out of Montana and the court date has been set for April 11th/2005.

Please make your cheques payable to: Fair Market Beef

    Send them to:

So who are Fair Market Beef? are they associated with Rick Paskals group that are suing the Americans under NAFTA?

No, this group is basically suing R-CALF for Libeling and Slandering the Canadian Beef Industry. They are suing with the objective of having them disband as the membership will not be able to come up with the $7 million a day. Once they are disbanded, there will be nobody to represent them in the border closure suit that's going on with Judge Cebull. Basically the objective is to knock the pins out from under R-CALF to get the border opened immediately. Of course if they decide not to disband, I hear that Bullard and McDonnell have some nice land to run some Canadian cattle.

Pasted your note and sent it to ABP, CCA, and our BIG C secretary. Hope the word spreads like wildfire SASH.

My $20.00 is in the mail.

Do you know this Jim Murray SASH. Questions of credibility may arise. I did with me after I already posted my letter with cheque enclosed.

If contact were possible, maybe BIG C could help with his, or their valididity.

Too bad we have to do things like this ourselves when ABP, CCA, and the likes are in a lot better position. On second thought, bent over with lips puckered getting ready to kiss any American a$$ may not be the right position.

I do know Jim Murray. He lives just north of me and rented the half section right beside last year. Besides for having his cattle all up on my lawn last summer, I think he knows what he's doing. The guy I actually got the information from is a good friend of my brother's. He's a Bull Breeder out this way and I would trust him as well.

20 bucks isn't much to have a shot at giving R-Calf a taste of their own medicine. My cheque is also in the mail.

Talk about turn about is fair play. This is taking a page right out of the R-Calf play book. I for one have had enough of their stunts and would love to have a piece of this.

American cattlemen would be well served to get in on this as well, since this group is going about slandering them as well if/when they should have a positive. They are spreading outright lies and setting the stage for a serious loss of consumer confidence if that dark day ever comes down there as well.

Montana sure has a lot of lawyers for a small population state doesn't it? ;-)

                    CBC News is on it....

                    Manitoba farmer fights R-CALF

                    CBC News
WINNIPEG - A Manitoba beef producer is collecting signatures for a class-action lawsuit against a U.S. lobby group that delayed the reopening of the border to Canadian cattle.

John Morrison has formed a group called Fair Market Beef, which plans to take on R-CALF USA, an American advocacy group that is formally known as the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund, United Stockgrowers of America.

The lobby group, citing concerns about mad cow disease, was granted an injunction to stop a planned March 7 reopening of the border.

The injunction came as a result of its lawsuit filed against the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Two groups representing the American meat packing industry filed a court brief on Saturday that says the border closure has resulted in thousands of layoffs.

Morrison said he has the support of thousands of people so far as his group tries to collect damages from R-CALF.

He is asking farmers to kick in $20 each to file a lawsuit, possibly by the middle of the month.

"Should R-CALF ask for any delays or anything in their case over their injunction, we will be asking that they have to provide a bond equivalent to the $7 million per day for losses, for however long they have that delay."

A spokesperson for Manitoba Agriculture Minister Rosann Wowchuk said the province won't support the lawsuit; it prefers to use diplomatic channels to open the border.

The Manitoba Cattle Producers Association says it hasn't been asked to take part.

Would it be unfair to ask ABP or CCA to help out with the fund?

10,000 - $20.00 cheques is the amount handed over to Rick Pascal by the ABP.

You might be best to call Jim Murray on that, Randy. I PM'd his number to you at ranchers.net. I'd post it publicly but there may be some Pro R-CALF people who may not share our point of view.

Some on the way from Ontario. Our county federation of agriculture meeting was tonight, most of our directors are sending individual cheques with possibly a county cheque to follow.
