As promised at the time of the general congress of the Union of the agricultural producers (UPA) last December, Quebec agrees to pay the difference between the bid price by the slaughter-houses and that required by the stockbreeders.This announcment was conditional with the conclusion of the agreement between the owners of the slaughter-house Colbex de Victoriaville and the Federation of the producers of bovines of Quebec (FPBQ). This agreement was finalized last week.
The Minister for Agriculture, the Fisheries and the Food, Yvon Vallières, has just announced before the annual general assembly of the FPBQ which the government of Quebec will pour its contribution of 7,6 M$ within the framework of the transitory Program of financial assistance intended for the producers. “The program is now in place and the first payments with the acceptable producers will begin soon”, ensures the minister.
The negotiations in order to obtain the contribution of the federal government always continue, with an aim of reaching the total amount of 19 M$ envisaged within the framework of the program.
