I was just reading a glossy brochure from the makers of Cydectin pour on in the last issue of the Cattleman magazine. It was a pseudo scientific paper outlining the advantages of dung beetles to your soils and nutrient cycling process. One expert quoted even went so far as to say that "millions of acres of North American pastures are lost to grazing each year due to dung accumulation and contamination" (presumably not "lost" in the way that land is lost to the advancing urban concrete jungle however)
All very interesting - the selling point being that Cydectin is dung beetle friendly compared to Ivomec or Dectomax which totally kill out the dung beetles.
It's a shame there was also an article in the actual Cattleman magazine about the toxidity of pour-on dewormers to dung beetles which pointed out the obvious - the product used is only relevant during the grass growing season. So when 90% of ranchers are treating their cattle with pour ons - after a hard frost to get maximum lice killing benefit it doesn't matter which product you use because it's not going to affect the dung beetles.
It seems to me this is a growing trend among the big drug companies, we often get glossy magazines inserts about grazing supposidly preaching holistic management - except they are really trying to sell Grazon or Remedy sprays.
