I notice in the programs announced yesterday by Alberta Agriculture that one deals with the Bluetongue and anaplasmosis diseases. I appreciate the need to pursue the science on this one but haven't we already agreed to roll over and take "contaminated" American feeder imports?
From Alberta Ag:
" Bluetongue/anaplasmosis is a trade irritant impacting negotiations on fully re-opening the U.S. border. Alberta proposes a large-scale pilot project to complete research, surveillance, and risk-assessment on these diseases. Preliminary research indicates spread of bluetongue in southern Alberta is unlikely but additional research is needed to verify findings. One million dollars will be used to support this important, additional scientific work."
