Methinks the wee Alberta cowboys mayyy be a bit more subsidized than their neighbors to the east-alot of our new Alberta neighbors are moving back west after ranching a couple years with an empty mailbox lol.

cswilson: Without a doubt Alberta cattle producers get more subsidies as well as some other advantages. The packing houses, big feedlots etc. do give us an advantage in transportation costs, competition etc.? However the cattleman in Saskatchewan does have some advantages? Land prices, probably cheaper feed, less competition for rented land?
Just yesterday I recieved a pamphlet titled "The Last Cattle Frontier" from the Yorkton area? They are trying to get cattle producers from Alberta to move to eastern Saskatchewan. They list the reasons to consider: cheap land. Opportunity to expand. 17 inches of rainfall. Quailty of life.
There are several locals who have moved because expansion was virtually impossible around here and they were buying land in Sask and Manitoba at almost a 10 to 1 ratio! I suspect if this trend continues someday the bulk of the cowherd might be in Saskatchewan!
Better take good care of that right arm...as you may be busy! LOL
