wet distillers grain

I was wondering if there is any of you out there that are using wet distillers grain for feed? Or done any research?

What do you think of it, as it is suppose to be better than regular grains? How does gains conpare and cost effects?

Ken Lewis of Lewis Simmentals, Lewis Estates, etc. has a setup on his feedmill for pouring the stuff into the silage trucks when they add their supplements and such. He says he honestly didn't think it was worth it after they tried it for a year. There were no real improvements in gains.

He figured the only advantage was if you were mixing alot of straw in you TMR, then it helped bring up the moisture levels.

We worked with various byproducts like these in Scotland. Scotland still has a fairly big distilling industry and given the short transport distances they were economic feeds. The key is price - these are byproducts and will only work if you get them at the right price. One product we had good success with was "supergrains" a drier, more concentrated distillers grain out of one particular whisky plant. We pitted it(like silage)in the summer along with dried beet pulp pellets in a 85:15 mixture and the resulting feed was rocket fuel! We fattened bull beef on this with only minerals as a supplement. It contains too much water to haul far in a country the size of this given your low feed grain prices.
