protein blocks

Recently I was at a cow/calf seminar and a company was promoting high protein range blocks. They can be purchased with 60%, 80% or 100% protein. The use of these blocks is recommended for cows that are on a forage diet only . In the past I've always fed alittle rolled barley prior to and after calving to boost the protein levels. Although these blocks are somewhat pricey they would be labour saving. I would be interested to hear if anyone has used them before and what were the results?

Pricy is definitely the word for it! If you could somehow control access to the blocks it might work. Cows will just keep at it once they get a taste. I believe lick tanks are a lot cheaper although they are a pretty expensive protein source too.
