Got me curious so I checked my policy. The rate is .25 so 170 cows@say 1200 dollars each would cost you $510. I don't think I'll be dropping my policy anytime soon.

I have always carried insurance on the livestock right down to the miniature donkeys.

Insurance? I'd rather take my chances with the thieves with masks than the ones with suits.

cowman, don't know where you got the idea I have WAY too much money !! Actually, over the years we have lost two cows to lightening, and were paid out at the insured cost, not the market value at the time of loss, so that in itself paid for several years insurance premiums.

I have had severe hail damage to my buildings twice over the past years, and when all was said and done, the insurance premium was a mere pittance of what I received in goods and payout.

My husband drove by our pasture one day during a big lightning storm. There were about 40 cows all lined up with their backs to the wind, and their noses up against the wire fence. That had potential for a disaster if lightning had hit the fence! He chased them away from the fence, but they didn't like it. Sometimes cows do the dumbest things. That's why we've always insured them. You just never know.
