    Need advise re: bulls

Have a pen of 40 yearling bulls, and occassionally they seem to gang up pick on one animal, riding, almost a gang ****. One or two will head hold him and the rest will mull around and take advantage. This "activity" has ruined a good bull in the past. If I catch it soon enough, I will him take out the pen. Does not seem to happen every year, but seems to be getting more common.
Any suggestions? Or perhaps enough of you need a good gelbvieh bull, and I wouldn't have this problem!!!!

Well perfecho, you might want to take this one up with the Liberals. I refer to this kind of activity in the human poulation as a phenotypical mental health issue but some Liberals will claim it is genetic by nature.

Are there heifers nearby? Or maybe they need a bigger pen. They may be feeling a bit crowded.

I have never heard of this type of behaviour in American cattle.I would suspect it is probably early symptoms of BSE.I suggest you smoke some pot and switch breeds.Otherwise change your ranch name to Brokeback Gelbvieh.

Were'nt those two brokeback cowboys Americans WillowKreek? Maybe neighbors of yours? Seems that even Oldtimer and the Rcalf boys are turning to the Liberals these days. How about you? Is it Hillary all the way to the brokeback whitehouse?

Once you get more than 20-25 bulls to a group you'll get some riding-you can put a cage along the side of the pen for the 'sweetass' to hide in but best bet is to pull him as quick as you can.

Seriously pefecho - Mr. Wilson is right -- pull him. And I will add cut him. His libido is likely off and agression is a very natural thing for males of any species.

Thanks for all the advise....or at least some of it. About 1 acre pen, but close to heifers and right next to cows that are brought in at night for calving, so I am sure it is kind of frustrating. Put "sweetass" in another pen with a 2yr old and seems to be OK. He was the heaviest and oldest bull in that pen.
Thanks again......will have to think on the Brokback name change.....

Kaiser-- Remember they had to actually film the movie "Brokeback Mountain" in Canada because this part of the country doesn't allow those type activities... Had to go to a Liberal Socialist area......

                    Randy,

Maybe Willow Kreek, and Oldtimer were the big stars of the movie Broke Back Mountains.

Sorry mb_rancher....no rope suckers in the r-calf crowd. No interest in swinging from that side of the plate or even being a switch hitter. My wife looks great to me.
I can understand ,however how you Canucks may find this appealing when you're on a pot smoking binge.

You still feeling like you came to the right place for advice, perfecho? Lots of riding going on around here as well I think. Gelbvieh is a very good breed and no, you don't have to cut him but I definatly think a good idea to move him away from the "gang-****rs." Just like how you will eventually seek your space from some of the gang ****rs around here. They mean well just not enough for most of them to do so they gang up on each other. Like Wilson said, too small of a space to play in makes for some strange behavior. (That's why he's in the sticks and the only sane one on here!) Rest of us in Central AB ( my hand is up!) are slowly (some days, rapidly!!! going nuts ourselves and hence start doing things like you're bulls) Yes, it's common enough and definatly life threatening, to all species.
Hope you're all enjoying the cold and out building snowmen with your kids!
Thanks for reading and have a good day!

Didn't mean to imply that you cut him beacuase he is a Gelbvieh. I think Gelbvieh is the continental breed of my choice.

What I was trying to say is that just like the human race, those ones that don't have enough good old testosterone flowing through their veins should be steered. Maybe if we steered a few of those human fruits in the right place, they would forget about using that thing in the wrong place.

Time for a coffee yet Whitey?

I used to feed bulls and I found that if you pull one you cant ever put him back. What I did was put some low rails in the shed and then when they started to ride one he would go in under the rails where the others couldnt get on him and if they couldnt get stsrted there wasnt to much of a problem, but they would ride them to death once they picked on one if you dont do something.

I'm as close as your phone Randy. Life seems to be full of minor hockey tournaments for me now but I always have time to catch up with a friend. Have a good night all!
