    mud on yearlings?

Have had 80 light yrlngs we've been keeping high and dry despite the several inches of rain we've had in the last couple of weeks. Hauling water to keep them away from the mudholes, bedding every couple of days, looking very good to both myself and the cattle buyer. We were forced to run them through the corals to load them out, now they don't look so tidy. What are peoples thoughts about buying them at the auction tomorrow? Are they going to be discounted like crazy or do the buyers realize it's just loading mud and isn't caked on living in the stuff mud? Any thoughts? How much of it will disappear by sale time? Guess it's a bit late now anyhow.

An experienced buyer should know the difference....make sure your agent/auctioneer knows and announces your program. Perhaps in this case, satellite would have been the way to go.
    Good luck with the sale!

Definitely go with perfecho's advice and talk to your sales rep from the place you're selling them. They shouldn't have a problem with announcing the obvious from the block.

Things turned out well, the mud fell off for the most part and they showed well. Pretty much topped the sale. Talked to the buyers and they were happy with the cattle, price just a bit softer than a week or two ago. Thanks guys.

good for you, and you can bet your cattle weren't the only ones that got a bit muddy before they went through the ring.
