CWB got a sale to Saudi Arabia

looks like our beloved CWB actually got a sale to Saudi Arabia. Some 20 million bushels of high protien number 1 hrs.
Now the billion dollar question why is the US surprised. Did they give it away or make us some money.
    But its a big hit.
Wheat should follow the other markets higher this morning, though the market is still reeling from Friday’s bearish USDA supply and demand report.

U.S. export hopes took a gut punch over the weekend when Canada won a high protein wheat tender for 20 million bushels from Saudi Arabia

Futures on milling quality wheat are sharply higher in Europe today, gaining more than 1%.

3 cheers for the guys/gals at the CWB... Did they get this done prior to noon on Friday?? Probably had to throw the last million bushels in for 1/2 price to get home before 2 pm for the long weekend...

Hopefully, this is a big win for Durum producers across the west. Let us assume for the moment that this sale is of huge benefit to farmers in the designated area, why then try to denigrate it? Are you not shooting yourselves in your own foot? What is the advantage to you on your own farm to criticise the CWB for something that may actually turn out to be a personal benefit for you? Where do you separate ideology from sound business practices? I can tell you that in the energy industry and in insurance/finance Board rooms - these kinds of discussions never come up. So why not be a bit kind and give some bouquets to the CWB if and when they actually do something that might be of value?
One step further, why hasn't the Harper Govt moved on eliminating single desk selling? Of course, the NDP and Bloc would be opposed, I'm not so sure of the Liberals, after all, they were the ones to get rid of the Crow Rate. I'll tell you why Ritz and Harper don't want to touch the CWB, it's because if the CWB was eliminated and wheat prices stayed the same or dropped, then they would be in the uncomfortable position of having to deal with that wrath. Right now, it is much more convenient and comfortable to have someone else absorb that blame and criticism, so no, don't expect this party to depose of the hated CWB, it is much too useful. At the end of the day, primary producers, one way or the other, will determine this outcome. In the meantime, be respectful and professional, if you expect serious treatment from those you do business with.

Our optimism is wearing thin after being disapointed time after time.

The conservatives win next election with a majority, the CWB is dead and gone once and for all. Its that simple rock-pile. That simple. Keep having minorities and your going to keep the CWB. The liberals and NDP and Block will vote to keep it. Only one way and that's a majority.

Rockpile you ask where I seperate criticism from sound business decisions.. Please.... I have yet to see where I even receive a choice to make a sound business decision with regards to "my" grain. I will mock whenever there is opportunity and the buffoons in Winnipeg provide it.

The harper government is not touching the cwb file BECAUSE of the massive debt that goes with it.

AND selling grain at a low - its called a harvest low is never wise. AND chances are the cwb movement won't happen for a few months - just around seeding.

Anyone from the cwb want to respond?

SF3 - nothing is ever that simple! Despite the polls, they are a long way off from a majority, and piano solos just aren't enough! Politics aside, this is the best governance we've had in a long time. Although I am very much bothered by the roundabout by Harper from his days with the NCC and his Masters Thesis on deficits. Call me a Libertarian socialist - the new wave!!! Lol!. And what are you???

Yea rock-pile it is that simple the Liberals and NDP would try to save this so till a majority we are stuck with it. More and more supporters of CWB pass on each year and we are getting close. Once the Cons get a majority its a strait forward vote and gone. Gone gone. That will be a great thanksgiving that I will even be happy with.

Bucket and JD, I agree with you, the feds want to keep an arms length from this file, because the long term financial consequences are alarming, and because every new political movement has been born out of the west. The new cons are now the new establishment, spending money in vote rich areas. You've been dumped, enjoy the status-quo, Ontario is much more important than Swift Current. Stop building walls, put your energies into creating commonalities. The more I look at it, the more it appears that the 'right' tries to win by creating fear and divisions. My patience is running out, I want to hear how everone is prepared to pull their differences in and start working together. That is how they won WW11, by the way.
                          Cheers, Rockpile

                            Best line of the year:

"The more I look at it, the more it appears that the 'right' tries to win by creating fear and divisions."

Rockpile: I have no idea how long you have been studying the CWB.

                            Google:

                            Lorne Hehn
                            Esmund Jarvis
                            Butch Harder
                            Nettie Wiebe
                            any NFU member
                            any "left" CWB Director
any "left" CWB Advisory Committee member

Then start a new post called fear and division documenting what you have found. I would do it for you - but think it would be time well wasted.
