China is out of the canola market.

Heard this A.M., that China has halted all canola imports due to blackleg infested seed. This came from two different sources this a.m. Pandora's may have been opened after the flax/mustard markets crashed. China sat and watched what happened and now threw down their trump card in canola.
Larry what are you hearing? This is bad news with most of the canola left in the feild was/is going straight in to be dried and sold. Things were looking O.K. price wise until this B/S.

It sounds like this happened earlier this month to Aussie canola (a container) heading to China. Also some Black Sea ****seed was stopped apparently.

It could still just be rumours but that would be enough to drive the market down.

They are just sabre rattling. They filled up on all commodities over the last 6 months. They don't need anything right now, we'll know when they do.

Sounds like CFIA will be talking to the trade tommorow... Haven't heard anything about a ban but maybe some tighter restrictions on Blackleg and some weed seeds. Could be interesting.

Oct 22 (Reuters) - China has told Canada and Australia it will not accept canola seed with blackleg disease, the Canola Council of Canada said on Thursday, a move that threatens to close Canada's top canola
seed market.

China sent a letter to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency a few days ago saying it will not accept Canadian canola seed without a certificate showing it's free of blackleg as of Nov. 15, said Canola Council president JoAnne Buth, in an interview with Reuters.

She said China had earlier told Australia it wouldn't accept its canola with blackleg.

Still no proof on the mustard or flax front but the door seems to be wide open now. This is not good.

It is their money. Customers are NOT obligated to buy from anyone. Including you.

You will slap me for this one, what's a little more black and blue, right, but try to grow what the customer wants. And if you have problems, as DOES EVERYONE AT SOME TIME, you talk directly to them. In heartbeat time.

A canola grower group has {MORE X 2000} influence than a pile of pissing EA's.

Never underestimate the power of an individual farmer because HE HAS THE MOST VESTED INTEREST.

My problem is that in this case, it's not a customer issue. Keep in mind that what Agstar said is true. It's purely political.

No, I'm extremely frustrated that nothing is on the canola council web site or CFIA or Ag Cda or CGC.

What really bugs me is that the Reuters story said the notice from China came through a few days ago. If you look at the volume of trade in canola futures since Monday, it's been absolutely huge. So who's doing the insider trading? It might just be the Chinese but it could also be some tipped off Cdn traders too.

The whole thing stinks and it's clearly not a customer problem.

I took a lot of heat from organics for exposing the favourable buybacks organics enjoyed.

But secrecy and protectionism breeds scam.

Over the long haul, doing "right" helps everyone. Including international customers and sellers.

I'm going to say this carefully. And as diplomatically, as I often do.

Few, except farmers, don't know what is happening in canola. Farmers need to take their industry back. Canola farmers are not making the money they should be.
