    Good news!!

    The forecast sucks but....

Took off a load of Oats yesterday. Put it through the dryer, after a few batches went to town with it. Are you listening Hopperbin??? Still holding a #2. Now I don't know what it will be come spring? But not if, but when oats hits $4.00 CBT come next summer. Those #4 oats will stll be worth $3/bus after spring harvesting!!!

I guess just trying to get the point across that, yes there will be downgrading with spring thrashed crops, but they still will be worth harvesting.

And I still call bullshit on the Canola being crap if left out. Know of way to many guys saying they've done it with no issues.

And even if they ding us $2/bus discount in Spring we'll still be getting $10/bus.

This China BS is the best buying opportunity in a lifetime.

I've never left canola out, but my experience with wheat was 5-8 bu less, plus a dicount because it was "spring thrashed". By the way it did not look very good.

Now my neighbour did have some canola out one year, and it was downgraded bad. It looked grey. Didn't look very good at all. He also lost bushels, but I can't remember by how much.

    Just my experiences.

Not trying to be a smart ass but I need this canola and have 600 acres out running 30 to 40 bushels acre. I'll sell it all to you right now for 8.50, just think you'll make 40 x 1.50 = 60 bucks an acre minus combining, but the catch is have to pay on bushels as is right now. any takers!!!!! How about some wheat, flax or canary?

I have a feeling that how canola overwinters depends entirely on how wet it was going in. If the swaths are soaking like they are now I have a hard time believing that they wont come out covered in that grey mold. If they go into winter dry I suspect that they might overwinter better than cereals.

On a side note I am currently running the canola through the dryer twice, 18-13 than 13-9. I left the hot canola in the dry bin at 13 for a day, from start of drying to taking it out, and it had started heating already. Can't believe that it started that quick. If we where custom drying this it would cost a little more than $1/bushel, so its not cheap, but better than in the field is suspect.

          Funny oat math sk.

You have to be a little bit of a masochist to love farming.

Agree with Wheatking. We have had both experiences and the difference was how the canola went into the winter. One spring was just like fall combined canola. Blacker than black. Next time was match material. Difference was a terrrible wet fall the other was a big dump of snow in October but swaths were dry. My suggestion is if you can get it at 20 do it.

I am listening and do not believe you could have #2oats. I suggest selling getting your check before they realize it is damaged seed.

Seabass, at least you've had both experiences.

Mabye I was lucky both times.

So you think wet fall = shit canola in spring??

Hopper you made an excellent point.

                  Obviously you don't grow Oats.

They don't care if the hull is green black and purple!!!

As long as the grote is good your fine.

Looked at the neighbors soft white wheat in swath, that has 0 sprouted!!

If soft white is good, oats is definitley good!!

Crops don't deteriorate with 1/2 a month of -10 temps and the other 1/2 of 4 without sun.

Germ is probably screwed anyway after -10-15 for 3 nights straight.

snapper if all you had was half a month of cool temps your one lucky little guy.Try Rain rain soaking rain, sunny snow sleet overcast, repeat week two and three. Don't think a crop come out looking peachy after shit like that. Also if it goes into winter wet will turn grey, If it goes in dry and covered by snow right off start good. Each area is definitely different and what the hell is going on. But either way the north and east has not had excellent weather just plain crappy and that is the difference.

In our experience snap always worse with too much moisture before it freezes up. Neighbors had same problems same years.
