    Durum Prices in the US

A farmer from ND called me about buying some lentil
seed today and we had a good talk. I asked him what
Durum has been selling for in ND. He said delivered
to New Century AG Fortuna, ND the price was around
$3.85/bu off the combine at harvest time and the
price today is around $4.65/bu. I have not been
following the Durum prices in the US but I was
suprised they were not higher than that.

And it still beats anything the Board has to offer.

plus you could get probably close to $1.00/bushl LDP. Think the USDA has spent close to $88 million on LDP payments on durum this year, averaging about $1.25/bushel. Suspect more hasn't been done becuase of payment limitations so we'll probably see another round of durum selling in the new tax year after they've locked in an LDP.

And lets all forget that alot of durum producers in the US could lock 7 or 8 dollar durum last february which is probably why they grew alot of durum.

Farming for a ldp in the states makes as much sense as farming for crop insurance in canada.
