Our CWB has screwed us again.

Intial prices will not be increasing any time soon due the give away attitude of their marketers. They can not go to the Government to get an initial increase because their market forcasters, who work in a bubble. Could not see the down turn in prices...They have hundreds of people hired and they have done nothing. They have asked for 50% of A series and after deductions it leaves us being paid only 25% of the pro. Good bye CWB

CWB has order takers, not marketers. If they had marketing savvy they would not need a monopoly, and they would not fill the news networks with market killing data.

CWB a price taker, not a price maker.

        Profarmer,

The CWB is no different than the Climate Change, Carbon Credit, Cap and trade, Environmental wing nuts who claim anything done by humans disturbs the environment... while everything else that happens is 'natural' and just fine because 'nature' is responsible.

Government regulation that creates a 'market' is not a 'market driven' economy.

Until we work together to allow real choices; tear apart the government monopolies that are being placed upon us in the energy, ag input, and marketing systems we must use... our problems on the farm will simply grow and become more complex.

The gov. gets 50% of the profits large mulitnationals/business extract...

Of course the gov. will allow the power brokers to become more powerful... and take more from farmers... cause farmers do everything possible to avoid paying taxes!!! A simple scheme to increase gov. funding.

And they have done nothing to address the durum issue either.

Instead the cwb will come out with a shitty initial pro for the 10/11 year to tell everyone not to grow durum.

And meanwhile the board of directors will ok the master plan by sir Ian and ward wiesel. No Benchmarking done there on their performances. They should have both been fired by now with the returns we are seeing.

Maybe Jeff N could comment on the board of director's benchmark for the marketing plan for the upcoming year. Because blaming everyone but themselves is getting a little old.

Blaming the board for world prices is also getting a little old.

I'm not blaming the cwb for world wheat prices - I just wish they could get those prices for western canadian farmers.

On another thread Jeff N was explaining how the board of directors approves the ceo's marketing plan. If the ceo's plan doesn't work what are the ramifications. By all counts so far the cwb tells farmers this or that happened. If the ceo doesn't change the plan and the board of directors don't ask for a different plan then we are doomed to the same fate.

They have no plan to solve the production problems in durum. And the fact the cwb hasn't come out and said that if western farmers grow another 5mmt of durum in 2010 they will only sell 30% indicates their incompetence as grain marketers. They continue to do the same thing year after year and expect a different result. Its incompetence plain and simple.

Hey stubblejumper, if your getting tired of farmers blaming the board for world prices, why don't you tell us what you think of the new Supreme Court decision. Be good to let the complainers go, right?

The cwb is the old boys school trying to live in this new world playground. They are getting old and need to retire. The board is the worlds pantry at the cost of the western canadian farmer. They say we will lose government guarntee, cash advance at the wto table. I say let them all go because #1. my spring cash advance only goes toward landlords who wants their half rent up front they would not get it till fall otherwise. #2. Fall advance only subsidize the buyers of the CWB grains because they know the farmer will carry them (the buyer) till they need the product (just in time)Who else has to wait a year and a half to get their final payment.. #3 Government guarantees only for the poor marketing pratices of the CWB.

No one is blaming the board for world prices.

The problem is that the board consistently nets us below world prices. For the 08-09 marketing year the final pool returns for spring wheat back to a farmer in Manitoba were $2.34 a bushel below the average open market price. Worse still the open market spot price was better than the final pool return 94% of the time.

This is based on the Minneapolis grain exchange and DTN 300 elevator daily cash price survey.

The worst marketer in the open market still beat the pants off of the 400 so called experts at 423 mainstreet. And this happens year, after year, after year.

I agree the board has never earned us Canadian (Western Canadian) farmers a premium. Its a bold face lie that they ever have. But a small group of farmers keeps this useless organization going. Please please stop the nonsense already and can we please kill this cat. Put it out of its misery once and for all. The world will not stop if the CWB is gone. Simply Harper should open up the books have some one do a study and see if it ever made us a profit. Then a simple vote yea or NEH. Simple

This thing has been studied to death. Harper should just order the board to give us no buyback export licenses and be done with it. People can vote with their trucks and their deliveries.

The CWB would love another 2... 3....4... year study to divert from the mess they are in and then a producer vote. Have you not been following? The Courts have ruled that farmers don't control the CWB.

As well, there is nothing an internal study of the CWB's operations could do. There is only one number that counts, and that is the amount that the producer receives. All the internal complexities in the CWB system is irrevevant. That is the one number the CWB can't ever hide, but obviously it is not important to their supporters. They have shown that election after election. CWB supporters can't control how you farm or how much land you farm, but they do have some control over how you sell, and they are not going to give that up, even if means less for themselves.

Ontario farmers don't care about the CWB, even though they are equally covered by the "monopoly" part of the CWB Act. However, if they want to export their grain, the CWB simply issues them an export licence. Why would the same not be good enough for Prairie farmers?
