    Interesting take on grain movement

Spent far too long in lineups at the elevator this harvest, so was interested to see what they are doing in the UK. http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2010/01/28/119729/Grain-chain-could-save-16342m-a-year-to-the-benefit-of.htm
Don't know if to laugh or cry!
Notice on farm loading and storage, the forklift loading of trucks is a great system but unsure if it would work in Canada.

I think they are doing that here. Just you won't be the one hauling the grain it will be a trucking company. Do you haul to Pioneer by any chance? That is where the lineups are around here except every day. You cannot pick a slack day, there is none. Viterra made a mistake selling the best productive UGG elevator in western Canada to Richardsons. People haul there because they want to.

The only reason this can work is that the company can actually work directly with farmers. What a great concept! Maybe in Canada we could... Oh never mind.

There are movements on supply chain going on here in UK but this ten minute delivery slots will not bring great improvments in my opinion..

The big one is vendor assurance. The grain store in the video Camgrain is leading this.

They have the volume to blend and are able to deliver to specification through Openfield a farmer owned grain trading company they are trying to create a system where the millers/malsters believe the grade stated by the suppler and tip without testing or at least waiting for the results. Those hauliers at Southampton had to wait 50/60 minutes for test results.

Huge benifits for bothsides if this could be done.

Like you we work the system. Off spec in front or back depending on where they test but equally they reject or deduct on the basis of a tiny sample and their far from independent equipment.
Report today of one canola crusher having to pay on two months intake as they were found reading 1% low on oil.

At the moment perhaps each side gets what it deserves but there could be a much better more profitable system where we deliver what the customer wants and they reward instead of penalise.
