Flax crushing in Western Canada

Isn't this the perfect opportunity to crush our own flax, just like Canola... and sell the oil?

This could be a major value added opportunity for our local communities... instead of a reason to sell our flax cheaper!!!

European linoil prices are running about USD $1200/tonne (about US 55 cents/lb) Rotterdam. European industrial buyers of linoil are scrambling to meet their needs. Likely why US and China are buying Canadian flaxseed. Crushing here would make sense but_______. Perhaps the best answer is this is Canada and say no more.

What variety have you got. Sorrell bethune or vimy?

How does flax pencil out for most of you? In what crop rotaion? We have tried it several times and it just does not seem to fit econamicaly or rotationaly for us.

Maybe "the industry" or "the trade" or whatever can do very well buying at $8.50 and making good margins on that business; and until some upstart domestic competitor upsets the status quo, a bit, then there is no need to make any changes.
It should be abundantly clear that it is not farmers that control the agricultural industry. We only get sucked dry; or as close to it so as possible without totally destroying the goose laying golden eggs.
The agricultural industry needs domestic crushing capacity. Velva doesn't crush flax and we can and have produced significant flax supplies (even on a world scale).
