Industry needs to take a flaxative.

How constipated is the Flax Council of Canada's protocol, and the seed industry officials that developed it?

The 4 subsample - 60 gram test (10,000 seeds) if negative tells only that that grind passed a detectable tolerance. It does not provide an ironclad guarantee that the seed lot it was drawn from will pass, if sampled again. Is it any wonder that some certified seed producers are worried about GM liability?

Is it any wonder that VK58's post states that 2 out of 170 farms surveyed believe they will sow a flax field this spring?

Add one more to the won't sow list.

It's looking like the EU will get their opportunity to test our industry leaders one boat load of pedigreed seed, yet.

Straighten your spines Canadian farmers. The industry that won't listen to its farmers needs to have this happen.

And shame on any farmer that sees an opportunity because of lower acres planted by those who are willing to do something about this drastic situation. This is a time for farmers to take back control of all their seeds; and if ever there was a rallying point; it should be this flax issue.
Your crop is next; so lets do something about them all. Don't sow flax this year.

Shame on anyone who seeds flax?

So only guys with flax in the bin can capitalize on

          ?Okay cotton, I'll bite.

There is going to be a 400,000 tonne flax carry over. It's all been blackballed by our industry leader's protocol to entering the EU market because you don't have a certificate to show that it was grown from 2009 certified seed.

"what's about to happen?", specifically as it relates to "capitalizing"?

            Checking,

Your point is well taken... I have had exactly the same issue expressed to Me.

"To know none of the triffid GM event exists in our flax... we must test every kernel... if we did... there would be no flax left."

What seed grower.... in their right mind, would sell flax seed?

There is NO WAY to gaurentee ZERO.

False trace positives are to be expected... below .01%. .01% is the limit of the present testing technology... yet the 'industry' is demanding the impossible... ZERO GM seed planted in 2010.

This is an impossible situation to deal with.

Yes I am going flax this year and when it comes down to have or have no flax to work with they will gladly buy mine. Just like wheat in 2008 a hint of a shortage and boom they{the stupid consumer} will pay anything to get what they want.Heaven bid they will not let their ribs rub together..Long live the free market.

Trace it back to where it came from and make it public so we can decide if we want to buy from them....

Where did this NEW cert. seed come from? Did the seed growers see this comming? Or perhaps have a little input?

It still takes a year to grow seed and all of a sudden seed growers have trifid free flax seed. HHHMMMM

                          A couple of options:

                          1. Notifying the Flax Commission by registered mail that you will withold checkoff funds, indefinitely, which you will consider rescinding when the present directors have resigned, and the present administrator, who thought the problem had 'all passed' a long time ago, is er, 'substituted'.
                          2. Not buying seed from ANY seedgrowers who originally purchased the seed and marketing rights from CDC. It was in their care.

                          3. Do #1 jointly, with one person you trust managing the information.
                          4. Compose a standardized form : I hereby instruct you to refund my flax checkoff ...blah blah. This notification is in legal effect until you are notifified at a future date.
                          5. Compose a emaillist of original Triffid owners to those requesting it.
6.An apology should be the basis for any discusssion.
                          7. Compose a list of good commercial seed to sell as seed stock you have on hand if you have NOT grown Triffid. Brown baggers not invited to list. And then buy from each other as did commercial bull buyers. They actually didn't like buying dwarf breeding bulls from purebred breeders. Imagine the nerve.
                          8. Put on your thinking cap for what you want to do with the Federal Government's Flax Council of Canada. I have a few ideas.

Just a few thoughts for now. I kinda like a bit of sweet talk on Valentine's Day. Smooch. Pars

By the way, 'ruthless' is such a respected word in the corporate world, well, I think farmers can learn from tha kind of leadership.

No reason in the world why farmers have to sell flax through regular agents, either.
Thi could get interesting.Poker, and farmes have grain to lay down on the table. The regular players have bullshit. Pars
