Alberta Coverage Prices for Crop Insurance

The below link is for Alberta crop insurance coverage prices. Not a decision for March but
Alberta farmers will have to do their homework and look at spring price endorsement for
    many of the crops.

I hate farming when you plan your income projections around crop insurance. I guess better to have than not have. Just hope to hang around long enough to hit another homerun.

I heard Kevin Hursh comment that Ontario farmers have a cost of production insurance.

The last two posts are quite revealing. I had the
pleasure of meeting with 2 individuals from
Australia's Ag Dept at their Consulate office in
Ottawa in the late 80's as they were travelling the
globe to investigate the different types of crop ins.
programs engaged around the world. (A pleasure
because their fridge was stocked with Fosters). I
suggested that they come up with a program that
was actuarially sound but gave individual producers
the ability to buy crop insurance according to their
costs of production and farming practices. They
were very enthused by that, but I never did find out
what the outcome was. Fast forward - took the
same proposal to AH&CI advisory meetings held
around the Province and then to Ag Minister Shirley
M along with the suggestion that Crop Insurance be
opened up to private sector participation as it is
with hail ins. (US has that). Was told thank-you but
no thank-you as 'we' (govt) would prefer to provide
guidance over crop ins matters, meaning they
would use coverage and premiums to influence
production as per govt policy. Maybe it is time to
demand an open market for CI again. Just my past
        experience - what's changed?

If Ontario does have cost of production crop insurance anyone know the cost of the premium as a % of coverage.

Ontario's program is provincial as fed government will not participate
