Western Barley Growers Steps up Courting CWB

For years, the WBGA was the last bastion of the marketing choice principle where farmers weren't begging for cash from corps or govt's to run their organization.

It wasn't a glitzy organization, but that is EXACTLY what lent them credibility, and why what they said meant something.

Unfortunately the WBGA's established free-market 'voice' paid a mingling fee, and latched onto a government partner.

Did you notice, this past year, as the WBGA veered from their marketing choice priority, into a 'close
working partnership' in order to entice cash out of the CWB for a WBGA partnership project?

    "Caved"

The CWB licked their lips all the way to a very finely set Board table. Only somebody elected would get to serve that last supper, right?

Hard to bite the hand that feeds you, isn't it. Pars

    Parsley,

Where exactly did the WBGA get CWB funding?

Tell us more. If they are being funded by the CWB they won't need my support.

Working on development projects WITH the CWB endorses the Board and justifies their expanding reach.

Brian Otto, on Feb 12: "We have taken the position that we are going to work on what's best for barley." (Western Producer.)

He said, "Instead the association has decided to work with the board to revise complicated marketing programs like CashPlus."

"We can provide a service and sit down and with the board and explain where it can be improved."

Otto et al are the ones who'll get
          'serviced'.

I'm hard nosed about entities and organizations who endorse and work with any government entity that forces farmer participation.(ie Wheat Board, Pulse Grower checkoffs etc,)They will just expand because enough is never enough.

Any organization that slithers through Government doors, cap in hand, not only looks like a beggar, but is then forced to accept the 'consensus', and hence become a voice of dead end negoatiating.

May they not rest in peace.

Maybe Mr. Neilson has shown them what it
is that turns the anti board supporters
into pro board supporters? I too would
like to see what it is that changes so
many spots on all these cheetahs.

              "Working with"

The new president took the WBGA back to square one.

Jeff? Press release? A meeting with press? Newspaper articles? L to E's? A public proposal for export licening?

              Nope.

              Sleeping on the Board pew.
