OK 45 days till in field what are we seeding!

As the spring seems to be here and water is running all over the place, the new drill arrived and old one left. So ones thoughts turn to seeding.
Still haven't cleaned a bushel. That being said here is what were doing.
2500 HRS Just a filler.
500 Durum down, with 600 less than we seeded last year.
600 oats up from last year but just a smidgen.
400 barley with malt contract, same as last year to up a hair.
800 Peas down down down from last year.
3500 Canola up a little from last year.
Remaining acres a crap shoot right now.
Have contracts for some Canola Oats and Barley.
Whats every one else doing.

From the very little i have heard things are going good
in the soy department,there was a field day tour i
missed,agronomically se sask is good to go with the
current varieties.

we have around 2100 heat units. this will be my second year growing them. last year we were just over 30bu net/ac but left 5-8bu/ac in the feild because we sowed them into lumpy wet ryegrass stubble. we are growing a 0036 from quarry seeds in stonewall mb, they seem to react to length of day(daylight sensitive) we planted ours on the 25th of may, but i know neighbors with as good as or better success that sowed them into the second week of june. i like them following ryegrass or timothy and i using them to replace wht in my rotation because of price and fusarium issues, plus they clean up a feild real nice.. rr canola can be an issue but it's only dockage and a rotary screen can take care of that.

we get on avg. 23-2400 CHU and close to the 24-2500 area, but I've also heard that daylight is at least as big of factor as CHU's on yield and maturity. Frost can happen any year here up till the 25th of May, but they probably take a few days to get out of the ground much like peas, so could probably plant anytime after May 20th. The little bit tried around here seems to be making close to 40 bus/ac, but the harvest is always really late, Oct. Do you/can you market them south of the boarder or through a buyer in MB? I was told to use Basagran, to knock out RR Canola. I've never used the product before so don't know how it handles.

I'm curious, has anyone ever tried lupins for feed?
Apparently a big hit in some parts of the US. When I
looked into it many years ago, I was advised to stay
away because of disease and insect concerns.

Alberta Agriculture has done work on lupins. Talk to Mark Olson.
Work has been in the black soil areas. Still a ways to
commercialization. Low tannin fababeans have also been looked at.

Other issues are markets. Benefits in things like fish food but at the
end of day, buyers are unwilling to pay the nutrient value of lupins.
Protein feed ingredients are cheap/plentiful so hard to develop new
crops with elements of risk/uncertainty.

I dont get the draw to Soybeans? No Agronomic advantage other than fixing some N, High Cash inputs, Pain to Market. I mean I wouldnt want to stop anyone from Growing them if it means less acreage in something else but, boy I'm not sold.
