flax conference call - Match 18

I could not listen to the call yesterday, and am somewhat disappointed that the only coverage that it has received so far is an article in the Cattlemen magazine website.

From what I can gather they are trying to stuff the genie back in the bottle, and farmers are going to pay for it.

Here is a new proposal for the situation. Lets grow Triffid. Call it GMO. Crush it here and ship the oil over to the EU, and feed the mash to fish here. Problem solved.

We are so obsessed with shipping whole seed across the ocean to every port, when we can process it here.

I am not in a major flax growing area, so it would not work here, but it could work on the eastern side of Sask.

    Just something to consider

I totally agree. We have to start doing more processing here. Just look at the pulse industry.I like to use flax in our rotation due to soil issues( heavy clay soil).Am still going to grow flax this year.

Unless a tarriff makes the oil priced out of the market?

Sorry, let be more specific. What are the tariff and non tariff trade barriers to the countries that buy flax oil as opposed to buying whole seed? For example canola ranges from 40 to 300% tariff on oil as opposed to whole seed for protection of the countries own crushing industry. Does this problem exist for flax?
