I was told that the Farm Debt Review Board is finance-houscleaning for some overly-optomistic farmers buying machinery during that short spell of high commodity prices.

These farmers now can't make payments with the current low prices they didn't consider in their planning.

All big machinery.

Will retiring farmers' auction sales end up reflecting repossessed machinery sitting in the dealer's yard? Or will the taxpayer simply pay for the entire write-offs? Is this a sound way to do business?

No different then the oil business. Ritchie Bros auctions selling cats and excavators with 300 hours on for days. You bet your tax dollars will be paying. And is why banks have raised interest twice with no BOC increase. Time to make it back for some. Bail for others.
