3 mm of rain just n.e. of Calgary--I can kick up the dust in the pens this a.m. It did freshen the air until the howling wind got us yesterday--the wind pretty much dried up every bit of moisture that we got--it took from Mon. to Thurs. to acquire 3 mm of moisture and 12 hours of howling wind yesterday to dry it all up. We are coveting a nice, warm spring rain out this way. There is sub surface moisture, but we need something for the top few inches to get the hay and native grass started.

zero moisture west Edmonton. Wheat cleaning appointment on April 20, and this year that feels a bit late. Forecast does not show any sub-zero temperatures and I'm actually considering rolling shortly. Tough call between utilizing what little moisture there is and frost risk, which is a decision not usually faced around here.
