I guess I missed something. It sounded like Rockpile suggested change. The CWB does need changes that better reflects REAL market prices for farmers. And pointing out SWP mistakes does not mean everything they done was wrong. This pointing fingers atitude will never help us.We need to learn from previous generations, right or wrong. Power should be in numbers. Divide and conquer has always worked.

Why don't we get serious about marketing our grain. Lets be like the dairy/cheese people, or the egg people. Let our marketing board become STRONGER, not weaker. Get rid of the government losers that have been appointed to oversee/control the CWB. Lets take control of the damn thing ourselves. Farmers know what is best for farmers, not politicos......

Then perhaps you have learned that forced participation is folly.
Perhaps you have learned that co-operatives can speak with large voice, but any mandatory co-operative eventually speaks with a corrupt voice, a voice gone out of control busking for itself.
For heaven's sakes, learn from the past. Pars

Yea we should be like the good old USA , where they have Freedom and Liberty and Oh Wait I almost forgot they have $ 6.08 loan deficiency payment on Durum.
We'll just ignore that last bit and keep talking " Free Markets and liberty and..........

these days of rotten prices were never coming back.
they promised just a few years ago.
loan rates for grains in the US kicking in . EEC still protected . here we go again. just think how bad it would be if we did not have ethanol plants chewing up supplies.
board or no board the export market has tanked .
You guys can't have it both ways,
either the board is undercutting everyone. then we would be sold out of grain. not happening
or the board has not sold enough, will not move your product. or did not sell soon enough.
at what price do you want them to dispose of it.
as for timing , they probably made us 4$ a bushel a couple of years ago by being long the market. (not great planning , just worked that way) and this year cost us 1$ bushel being long.
i know some think the board must be total morons not getting good sales.
the buyers must be morons as well if they are paying more than they have to, from other suppliers
maybe this time around the US and EEC are too poor to keep paying the subsides . it might not make a difference if they didn't subsidize .
mother natures wrath and growth in the developing world are what will save us. not dumping the board.

Why doesn't the Gov and the CWB set the initial price at say $10 per bus and force the world to pay like $12.
Oh wait, the world is only paying like $5. Oh well, the gov can pick up diff.
Just like the CROW the gov will not change anything until they are absolutly sure that thier actions will not cost tax payers any money and they can down load all risk on farmers and then they can say "this is what YOU wanted"
If we as farmers want to lobby the gov't it should be for an increase of initial payments that will at least cover the cost of production and a living expense. Guarenteed by the tax payers of Canada. To "H" with free trade WE are the only ones that are fallowing agreements anyhow.

Could the CWB, WWGA, WBGA, NFU, APAS, all the others and we as producers not stand up together 'for once' IN THE INTEREST OF ALL PRODUERS and tell the Gov,t of Canada that we NEED an guarenteed initial price that will get farming viable in western Canada.
Or what is thier agenda? Tell us, so we can govern our selves accordingly. Do they want us to stay on the land or do they what the likes of One Earth Farms to run her all?
It's not the CWB or any other marketing agency it is the elected reps from local private boards to local gov't, provincial and federal govt's all feeding thier POWER ADDICTION.

The real issue has never been and never will be about whether or not the Board gets you .38 cents more or .41 cents more, and you know it.
If you want a marketing agency to realize the .41 cents, go for it.
Just make sure it's a voluntary agency.
And make sure YOU don't go crawling to ANY government...provincial, federal or world government, to try and make your big dream mandatory, through the use of regulatory force either.

The REAL issue is about forcing people. Forcing all farmers to sell to a government CWB body through the use of regulatory force. CWB forcing farmers to surrender their property to the state.
Or jail.

It's not quite so appealing when you x-ray the bare bones in black and white, is it.
How anyone can promote this idea that an individual's property or any company's manufactured property ....whether it be machinery or art or furniture or appliances or wheat........ is reprehensible to me.

the real issue is that some ( farmers for just me) would stab their neighbor in the back rather than cooperate and get better prices.

Sawfly, how do you figure the CWB made us $4 pr bushel two years ago. I think they lost us $4 per bushel. I sold a lot of Wheat on a BPC for over $14 per bushel.
If memory serves, the final payment was around $9 per bushel.
All farmers can sell just like the Board, they average the bushels over 18 months, starting in Feb. for the 10/11 crop year. Nothing magical, they are not any smarter than a fifth grader, they just average it out over 18 months.
They do not get any premiums, at least I have not seen any for the 30 years I have been keeping track. Maybe it all goes back to the Gov't or for their $1000 bonuses for stress, but we as farmers don't see it.

Total farmer control of the CWB, is the first step, that has to be taken, to make the agency real. Likely the government will want concessions to make this possible. Butt ifn we wants to grow and get good at marketin, we've gotta learn to be hard barginers, just like the yankee traders we have all heard and read about. Fer example we got the oil and the fresh water, lets use these levers and doooooo something with it to help Kanada's future. This is gonna be tough though, cause most Kandian trade guys/girls can't pour piss outta a boot, let alone getta a good deal anywhere. Look at the fools who've given us away at NFTA AND THE WHO. Duh we got nothin real in return fer concessions............

Pars This is Canada, the land of crown corps, medicare, free highways, mandatory insurance and other progams that we take for granted, but have to belong to. If the CWB is so bad grow non board crops or get elected to it. Change it from within. The open market system to our south has more government support available then most countries GDP. A worldwide free market would be great, but only if EVERYONE had to play by the same rules and we all know that will never happen.

My problem with all of this - is that I can't market wheat and durum like I do with peas, flax, canola, lentils.
If I see a good price for lentils for fall delivery I can take the price. Durum in feb09 PRO had a good price but I could not lock in a good price. I grew it based on the pro and by the time I was combining it was in the tank. Meanwhile the US farmer locked in a 7 dollar crop.
Does this mean I get the top price - NO - but it means I get a price that works for my farm. Without some pee-on in winnipeg telling me they are doing a great job losing my farm money.
