Nobody seems to want to deal with the fact that the CWB is still here and may stay, right or wrong. How do we improve the present system for our collective good.(saying disband or voluntary excluded). Something positive that might really happen. ALL farmers would like to make a living. We know our government won`t give us $ 6.08 a bushel, so within our present system, what works??

Wow! First, SF3, I looked back in the archives and I
couldn't find these magically high numbers on US
futures for durum (don't forget to factor in basis).
Pars, the CWB is a 70 year old dinosaur, but
commodity trading vis-a-vie CBOT, etc. are 110
year old dinosaurs, and neither serve farmers with
respect. 8 dollar canola folks is a 35 year old price
-sold ****seed for that in the early 70's. What's
needed is a fresh way of thinking, linking producer
to end user in a much closer relationship - toss the
speculators and the middle men. Property rights,
okay, take ownership of that property and quit
thinking that your responsibility ends at the farm
gate. Also, I saw somewhere a comment about US
terminal charges being lower than ours. Two
things, one, I heard that for years but never came
across documented proof, second, they don't deal
with such a diverse basket of grades and
commodities as here. Which raises the final point,
KEEP in mind when comparing that US farmers sell
80% of production into their domestic market - the
premium global market. Canadian farmers SELL 80%
of production into export markets - ie: you
compete for the crumbs.Time to end this thread
      and get on with it!

Okay, the goddess of AV rules! BTW -typo - I meant
150 year old dinosaur. Still feel we should move on
and quit the either or and start talking the 'what if'?

Great idea Burbert. Do you also suggest lassoing 50,000 western grain farmers against their will to through out the government. Without gov't the CWB will be like a lone sheep in the middle of a pack of wolves. Talk about jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Fine by me though.

Hey Pars - you'll never offend me, a good discourse is
the road to progress, otherwise you become a rocking
chair - a lot of motion but it never moves anywhere! I
admire your principles. I wish I could come up with
the magic bullet that would solve everyone's
problems, but it's just not that simple, is it?

Isn't this farmer control thing a little ironic???? So farmers will guarantee themselves price guarantees??? Farmer control will be not be voluntary??? Farmers themselves will make laws for other farmers to follow??? Without gov't Saskfarmer 3 will not be able to marter himself. :-((

Admire, Rocky? You're so darn easy to trick I see. hee hee

Hopper, you have the same head image as I..burbert doing lots of lassooing, (and missing, too?) only thing I also visualize seeing him riding a donkey to town once in awhile.(I musta had one of those Buddhist spiritual overcomings) And the damn thing limps because Burburt rides side saddle cause he's got a boney ass! LOL

Now that's sharing more information than you ever want to know, but I'm back into writing again, as I was must have been inspired during Advent with invent.

For heaven's sake, AVer's, if I ever take a notion to publish the series of 5 books, don't buy the books or your wives will burn down the house and you in it. And that, you can take to your insurance company. LOL Pars

OH one other crazy thing Burbert is that Quebec has more say in CWB than we do. Since Quebec companies own the lake shippers we get to keep the CWB not completely farmer run. Do you really have a bony ass?

                        Rockpile,

                        The solution is REALY simple:

The CWB goes back to operations as they were before 1993, growers of their own produce exempt from the CWB Act and 'monopoly'.

How soon we forget that in the 1980's the CWB had none of the 'buyback' woes they perpitrate on 'designated area' growers today.

Thia whole thing is a farce. Seed growers can export the seeds that create the grain the CWB claims is so different than other global quality... and are GIVEN no-cost export licenses by the CWB themselves.

The first requirement for the CWB to actually control their 'monopoly'... if it were actually possible... would be to control the seed supply. The CWB does not.

This whole stupid affair is simply a farce... The CWB is like a soother laced with viagra... some enjoy it, and can not get out of the habit of screwing their neighbour.

I for one am totally disgusted with this 'culture' of abuse.

My suggestion is, actually take control of the CWB, wrest it from the Kamedian Gov't once and for all. We kin run it the way we wants too! To hell with garantees, advances, tech advice, we's farmers are big boys we kin run a multinational marketing board just like we runs our farms, in fact we could all do it, wit our home computers! Yups we knows how to git the best deals, ship/shop on a global scale right at home.......
HOPPIE, lets not offend the frenchies nor the 50,000 western farmers, who are apparently like a bunch of cats, runnin in every direction at the same time. We's grown up business people nowaddays.

There is definitely something wrong with me checking; I don't 'feel' old.

But Rocky has a point about ideas. So I will make a suggestion to improve the Board:

The CWB Annual Accounting Statement should be modified to read simply. No deception. No new terms meant to deceive. No combining or amalgamating so it becomes difficult to resume continuity from last year's statement. Quit the pictures crap. Instruct the accountants and the excutive to be upright and forthright.

Fire any accountant practices employing "resourceful" interpretation.

All accounting should OPENLY reflect whatever action has neen done.

I am sick to death of weasling scheming accountants who try to paint a pretty picture for unsuspecting owners/inestors/funders, and instead try to minimize the negative aspects of the true picture, as directed by the CEO/management so they look good. So mistakes don't show.

                              It's called ACCOUNYABILITY.

Intergrity. True picture. Up front.Consistent format/

Anyone else want the same? Pars
