Does this mean when Minister Ritz comes to prairie towns campaigning to be crowned Ag Minister in the next election, that he can't ride his donkey?

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA HELPS FARMERS IMPROVE ANIMAL CARE PRACTICES

GUELPH, Ontario, April 30, 2010 - Canadian farmers are proud to provide excellent care for their animals and the Government of Canada is investing in further development of best-practices for livestock handling. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Member of Parliament Joe Preston (Elgin-Middlesex-London) today announced the funding in Guelph.

"Taking care of the livestock is the first chore in the morning and the last chore at night because farmers know that healthy animals mean a healthy business," said Minister Ritz. "The Government of Canada is proud to partner with Canadian farmers to further develop best-practices that will strengthen our livestock industry."

"Our farmers take pride in their animal handling practices", said MP Preston. "I'm proud to be part of a Government that helps farmers in Ontario and across Canada utilize the latest research and best-practices in farm animal care."

The Canadian Animal Health Coalition (CAHC), working with the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), will use this investment of up to $3.4 million to advance animal care and well-being in the farmed animal sector.

"CAHC has been successful in bringing groups together for common purposes, including establishing the National Farm Animal Care Council and providing support for its continued development," said Mark Beaven, Executive Director, CAHC. "CAHC thanks the Federal Government for its support for the project, and is committed to facilitating the successful outcomes that support farmed animal health and welfare, alongside farmed animal production and trade."

This investment will help develop a new Codes of Practice for various farmed animal sectors and an on-farm assessment protocol. As a framework for the Codes, NFACC will use the revised National Development Process for Codes of Practice for the Care and Handling of Farm Animals that they piloted last year in the dairy industry with support from federal adaptation funding.

"NFACC provides a vehicle for ensuring a national coordinated approach on farm animal care among all stakeholders across the entire value chain," said Edouard Asnong, Chair, NFACC. "NFACC appreciates the Federal Government's support to address farm animal care issues that relate to its members, domestic and export markets, the Canadian and provincial governments and the Canadian public, utilizing science-based and collaborative processes."

Funding for this project is being made available through the AgriFlexibility fund, a program delivered in Canada's Economic Action Plan (EAP). The EAP focuses on strengthening the economy and securing Canada's economic future.

Funding is subject to the project meeting all eligibility requirments and the signing of a contribution agreement.

          Donkey Riding"

          [Chorus:]

Way hey and away we go
          Donkey riding, donkey riding
Way hey and away we go
          Ridin' on a donkey.

          Was you ever in Quebec
          Launchin' timber on the deck?
Where ya break yer bleedin' neck
          Ridin' on a donkey!

          [Chorus]

Was you ever 'round Cape Horn
          Where the weather's never warm?
Wished to God you'd never been born
          Ridin' on a donkey.

          [Chorus]

          Was you ever in Miramichi
Where ye tie up to a tree,
An' the girls sit on yer knee?
          Ridin' on a donkey

          [Chorus]

Was you ever in Fortune Bay
See the girls all shout, "Hooray!"?
"Here comes dad with ten weeks pay
          Riding on a donkey."

          [Chorus]

          Was you ever in London-town
See the King he does come down?
See the King in his golden crown
          Riding on a donkey

          [Chorus

I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you want
to get their attention - throw some of the bums
out!!! Can't hold your nose and vote Lib or ND, then
go after a quality individual to run as an
independent devoted only to his or her
constituents. Party politics in this country are
totally out of control to the point where the focus
by every party is determined by what will get the
votes in, never mind what is needed or is right or
wrong. Bring back the Rhinos! As for a song, how
about 'Wasted Days and Wasted Nights'?

Watch out livestock producers!!!! Letting Joe Public be involved means animal rights people and others with no knowledge of animal husbandry sit at the table and make laws that no one can follow!!!!
