    ALERT ! please read.

anyone else find anything in their Dekalb 72-55RR ??? found "wild oat" type seeds( maybe grass or small thin barley??) didn't want to rub them off too much incase someone might want to test them. only one or maybe two per bag/50lbs. tricky to find but noticed the first one sitting right on top when I opened a bag, after that started to watch for more and found them. went in tank and found a couple more when I spend the seed around.(I'm not advising anyone to go in their seed tank with canola seed present!)

this is very alarming to me.

I am not sure what the specs are but would guess one or two per 50 lb sample will likely be way, way within spec. Not good none the less, but when you do a really big sample like that you can get some real high numbers. Maybe one of the seed growers will comment.

my only concern, is if it's tolerant.

If run through a cleaner why would there be a wild oat type similar seed in there???? We pay way too much for this seed.

Send the seeds to the Sask Ag Crop Lab in Regina, they can tell you what it is.

Find out if it blended with 08 seed. Dekalb blended thousands of bags this past winter with old low germ seed to save seed stock. The way some of that stuff is blended I am surprised if thats all you find. Food for thought - and oh yeah, you paid $7-8/lb for that.
Different color seed treatment in the same bag is a sure sign, as well as the seed tag. May have nothing to do with the wild oat thing but I have seen this before.

"09 blend" on tag. what is germ on #1, 85%, so add 10-15% left over treated seed from the year before, nice,

09 blend may mean two things, seed blended from two seed lots of the same year. Or seed blended from different years.
Some blend for specific seed size - just from different seed lots from the same seed stock. A good thing, consistant seed size for even seeding.
Others just use the system to blend out one - two year old crap just enough with new seed to make #1.(90%). No one none the wiser - unless you read seed tags and ask questions. New varieties are the safe bet - no carry over.
Remember all those "speacial" deals from the line companies for oil premiums and blah blah - they were blowing out seed they had to get rid of very fast before it was carried over again then sent to the dump.
Again, this may not be the reason for the wild oat thing but it should ring an alarm bell.

Your seed might have weed seeds in it and still make certified. Certified #1 seed for canola is allowed 1 noxious weed seed per 25g sample and 5 other seeds per 25g sample. Only registered and foundation are allowed no primary or secondary noxious per 25g sample but are still allowed 5 other seeds per 25g. These numbers are available at the department of justice website at laws.justice.gc.ca.

I'm pretty sure the dekalb variety you grew has non RR males, so that's probably the weed source. The females are sprayed with roundup and are very clean but the males are sprayed with conventional canola chemistries and can have some weed pressure due to the low seeding rates used.

Some weeds are put on the noxious list for a certain crop because of the inability to clean them out of a sample. Mustard is the best example in canola. If your weed seeds are of a very different seed size and weight, chances are there was a breakdown at the cleaning plant. Something wore out, leaked a little, then broke and was fixed. Stuff happens, even though noone wants to talk about it.

Or it has been blended at a plant run by low paying drug heads who do not give a shi! about what goes out the door? Trust me I'll show you Dekalbs/Cantera's "blending" facility for a case of beer...(maybe three -it'll cost me one) It is five min away from my farm, spent 11 years there. I know what goes on. Don't give the b/s about what's alowed is cert seed - come on, we have known that b/s story for a long time.
Same with the cert germ % - only tested in perfect lab conditions. Most before treatment.
Seed treated in '08 '07 and then blended at a faility that does forages by guys that are high from 9 am on.... put two and two together man.
Better put a sock in it before the Monsanto helicopters show up! But I am bewildered that farmers are paying $7-8/lb for this shi!!
